You Can’t Catch Us All

This rebellious sentiment of not being able to subdue all of us as we continue to fight for equality is what keeps my heart light.

In 2024, I began using the horse as an archetype in my paintings to symbolize the wild feminine—untamed, instinctual, and powerful. The horse embodies pure freedom and raw strength, qualities that have historically made it a target for control. Humans have long tethered horses, not only physically but symbolically, turning their power into something manageable, restrained.

This painting is a direct response to the ongoing fight against women’s rights. The horse appears with a catch rope around its neck—a specific knot designed to tighten the more the horse resists or tries to escape. It’s commonly used to subdue "unruly" horses, and here it becomes a metaphor for the mechanisms used to suppress female autonomy. Through this imagery, I confront the ways society seeks to restrain the very qualities it fears: wildness, freedom, and feminine power. The tag on the horse reads “If Found, Return to Bestie” to acknowledge the power of female friendships.
